If you won’t talk about your valuable work, someone else will. And they’ll get hired.

Most recruiters will tell you, if they had to select the single, most annoying mistake candidates make in their resumes, it would be the copy-paste description of work experience.

Let’s think about it for a second. If you’re a recruiter and receive a resume which describes responsibilities and nothing else, how are you going to know how the applicant performed those duties during their employment?

That said, there are some signals that may indicate that your CV needs a change:

• If you’re not getting feedback from the market (aka companies you’re applying for)
• If you’re not getting any interviews despite applying
• If you are getting some interviews but it takes too much applying

When you’re in the market for a new role, measure “# of interviews / # of applications” to understand if your CV is good enough for the roles you’re targeting.
